The active Women?s Institute at Plashetts held a meeting every month. It joined in the Beethoven Centenary Celebration on Thursday 24th March 1927 with a lecture given by Mr. James Cunningham, illustrated by selections from the composer?s works. All of the illustrations were given on the school gramophone by means of Columbia Records, loaned by Mr. Dennis Smith of Hexham and they show clearly the wonderful level of recording achieved by the Columbia Company. Mr. Adam Robson of Wellhaugh, Plashetts, asked if the council could give a subscription towards the repair of the bridge across the North Tyne at Wellhaugh, as it was in a very dangerous condition. The sum of ?30 had been raised so far?It was erected for the benefit of shooting parties but it was used by schoolchildren ? no bridge, no tuition. |
