Two branch lines were to close with Reedsmouth services being affected. Passenger train services on the Reedsmouth-Morpeth and Morpeth-Rothbury branch lines were to be withdrawn from Monday 15th September. British Rail states that the lines were running at a considerable loss. Advertised excursion trains would run from time to time. Goods traffic would continue to be accepted at Woodburn for collection and delivery by British Rail motors which would continue to operate in the whole area. Compare 23/02/1951.
