Watched by 34 of his school friends from Kielder First School, nine-year-old Jonathan Hall pressed the button, which closed the steel sluice at Bakethin Dam and began the filling of Kielder Reservoir. Water from the River North Tyne, which has its source at Deadwater Farm, Jonathan?s own family farm for four generations, immediately started backing up behind the gate and within a very short time covered the whole of the shallow part of the river valley.
