A new carved head was hung on William Winter?s gibbet following the theft of its predecessor 14 months earlier. The present gibbet, on the National Trust?s Wallington estate, commemorates the hanging of Winter for the murder of Elsdon shopkeeper Margaret Crozier in 1791.
