World champion Cumberland and Westmorland style wrestler, Jack Liddell of Haydon Bridge, did battle with Long Lea?s Roger Robson at the prestigious sports meeting in Ashington. Liddell won two falls to one. The winner in the 10-and-a-half stone competition was George Common of Harbottle, after his opponent in the final, Joe Robinson of Newcastle, declined to take part claiming that Common was over-weight.
