Adam Dagg, a former postman in Alwinton. Photograph by Neil DenhamFor twenty years, professional photographer Neil Denham has worked for some of the country’s top magazines, newspapers, advertising and PR agencies. Now, for this new exhibition, he has moved from the glamorous world of London advertising and PR to the farms and workshops of his birthplace where he has been photographing unsung working heroes of Northumberland. In a striking collection of portraits, Neil has captured friends old and new as they go about their daily work. The subjects of these photographs barely paused to allow them to be taken, and there were no stylists or make-up artists or colour coordinators or fashion advisers involved. But the photos are a powerful, insightful and wonderful record of working life.

Neil Denham, 40, is originally from Newbrough but moved to Bellingham on his return from London in 2009. He is staff photographer for the online automotive magazine www.roadmagazine.co.uk but is now undertaking commissions for various clients in the north east and further afield. Neil has discovered the pleasures of wedding photography and this is now an important part of his work – his wedding photography website is www.denhamweddings.co.uk Neil Denham’s blog is at http://denhamphoto.blogspot.com/ Neil Denham is enjoying country life – a highlight for him was the recent Bellingham All Acoustic Festival – and is looking forward to having time to photograph more of the people, events and landscapes of Northumberland.

Northumbrians will run from Tuesday 8 June to Sunday 4 July at the Heritage Centre at Bellingham (www.bellingham-heritage.org.uk).
