A group of ten young people in care created the next exhibition to be shown at the Heritage Centre at Bellingham, Northumberland. The photographic exhibition includes well-observed images of plants, birds and landscapes. „Young People in Care Photographing Northumberland‟ opens on Tuesday 5 July and runs to Thursday 21 July.

The young people chose the theme for the work themselves and worked with professional photographers to learn how to use digital SRL cameras. Also intimately involved in this fascinating project were participation workers Anya Proud and Robin Craig. The exhibition came out of the Tech-Max project which is designed to improve the opportunities for young people under 19 years of age to broaden their experiences of culture and to become involved in a wide range of enjoyable activities.
Anya Proud, participation worker for Northumberland County Council‟s children service said: “The young people picked up the key points of using the SLR camera very quickly and showed real enthusiasm. They all produced some amazing images, even those who had never taken a photograph before”.
This must-see exhibition has previously been shown at County Hall and at libraries and tourist information centres across the county. The Heritage Centre is open daily, Monday to Saturday from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm and Sunday from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm. Admission to the exhibition and museum is £3 Adult, £6 Family and £2 concessions. The museum‟s website is: www.bellingham-heritage.org.uk. The telephone number for Bellingham tourist information centre, which is open at the above times, is (01434) 220 616.
