The Robert Stephenson Trust is mounting an exhibition “Robert Stephenson – Life and Rainhill” at Bellingham Heritage Centre, Northumberland, between 4th April and 11th May 2011.

The exhibition will highlight the engineering genius of Robert Stephenson and feature details of his competitors in the „Rainhill Trials‟. There will also be an opportunity to take an interactive tour of part of the factory and offices of Robert Stephenson and Company where the locomotive „Rocket‟ was built.

Michael Taylor, Trustee of Robert Stephenson Trust, said: “We are delighted to be able to mount this exhibition in this fantastic space of the Bellingham Heritage Centre and we are extremely grateful to all connected with the Centre in staging this exhibition of the most important engineer of the 19th century. Together with the Heritage Centre‟s own “Border Counties Railways” display and the two old Mark 1 railway coaches which they are about to refurbish, this is a must-see exhibition for railway, engineering and history buffs and the general public.”

The exhibition is supported by Heritage Lottery Fund, Newcastle City Council and Institution of Civil Engineers.

Admission to Exhibition and Museum: Adults £3, Families £6, Concessions £2. The Heritage Centre will be open every day from 1 April.
