'TRAD DVD' (Working Title)
Picture of fiddle belonging to Michael Hall (deceased) who was known as 'Musical Hall' because of his talent for playing and for organising musical events for drovers. The fiddle is on display at the Heritage Centre thanks to Don Clegg of Tarset.
The wonderful heritage of traditional music, song and poetry in this part of Northumberland (North Tyne and Redesdale), and some of the newer works 'in the tradition' from the area, are shortly to be documented in a new DVD and separate sound CD. Working with a group of accomplished local musicians, singers and poets, and with Northumberland National Park Authority, the Heritage Centre will present a comprehensive selection of these superb songs, poems and tunes together with film of some of the outstanding local landscapes. In addition to works from the area, the award-winning poet Pippa Little will read a poem from her collection 'FORAY Border Reiver Women'. Although individual tunes and songs have been recorded before, this is the first attempt to make a comprehensive selection available. We have not yet fixed a title for the DVD - we welcome suggestions.
We have so far raised one-third of the funds we need to complete the project. This will enable us to start filming at Bellingham Show on Saturday 27 August 2011. The Northumbrian Piping competition at the Show is the oldest piping competition in the world. We would very much like to complete the filming during September and October 2011 but this depends on raising the necessary money - if you can help, please get in touch. Thank you.
