PETROL AND CASH Tips

Don't travel on empty: there is a motor fuels stockist in Bellingham but it is closed in the evenings, on Saturday evening and all day Sunday. It's a long way to the next 'pumps'. Also, the single ATM or 'hole-in-the-wall' or cashpoint sometimes runs out on busy weekends/bank holidays. Stock up before you come and again, if you can, before you leave!

The Heritage Centre was refurbished and extended during 2008. A new gallery houses the Stannersburn Smithy and an exhibition of farming tools, mementoes and pictures.

The Bellingham Tourist Information Centre now shares space with the Heritage Centre. Tel: (01434) 220 616.

Welcome to the Heritage Centre at Bellingham, Hexham, Northumberland, England.

Summer Opening Times

Mon - Sat 09.30 – 16.30

An Archeology Of Race,

The Heritage Centre Bellingham is the only museum close to the central section of Hadrian's Wall where this exhibition is being shown. Don't miss your chance to experience it, so far others have commented,

"What an amazing exhibition in such a small space. Gives you so much to think about too."

"Those two faces are just surreal. Severus's face actually follows you around the room. Eerie!"

"So different from the exhibition we saw last year."

And just how would you spend a weekend in Bellingham?

Well, the Heritage Centre has just acquired a fascinating article from 1891 about exactly what you could do. It's from the 'Monthly Chronicle of North Country Lore and Legend', and comes with some fine black and white illustrations. It adds to the collection of local guides for visitors to the area that we hold and are actively collecting. Can you help us with extending our archive?

Visit The Heritage Centre at Bellingham - the museum for the ruggedly beautiful and historic North Tyne and Redewater area of Northumberland, England. The Centre also houses the Bellingham Tourist Information Centre. The history of this ancient and fabled place is captured in five permanent displays covering farming (including a 'reconstruction' of the Stannersburn smithy or farriery), mining, the Border Counties Railway, the Border Reivers, and the photography of W P Collier. So, whether you are on holiday or taking a day out, or entertaining children, why not take time to enjoy ...

"...the wonderful Bellingham Heritage Centre where a treasure trove of memorabilia is on display..." (Tynedale Visitor 2011 - a supplement of the Hexham Courant).
