The Names Database
This database contains the names of people with connections to North Tynedale and Redesdale. There are over 50,000 entries but the same person may be recorded three times - when she was baptised, married and buried.
Diverse sources have been used in the compilation - census data, local parish records, newspaper reports, directories, local history books etc. The database is a useful starting point for family history research as it provides signposts to places where more detailed information can be found.
The Photos Database
This database contains over 2600 images of local people, places and events. Roughly one third of the photographs are by W P Collier who lived in Bellingham between the First and Second World Wars. They provide a fascinating insight into life in 'the old days' when sheep were clipped by hand and people moved to a different rhythm. But the collection also encompasses the reality of war (soldiers gathering in Bellingham during WWl), the terrible damage caused to the town in the 1911 floods as well as pictures of mining, the Border Counties Railway, and a host of other subjects.
